Amber Clifton wins Gymnastics achievement trophy
13 year old Amber Clifton from Horley has been awarded the annual Springfit Elite trophy for her exemplary performances throughout 2008.
The trophy was first awarded last year by departing Elite class founder Stacey Rodd and stands for achievements in flexibility, strength, attitude and performance.
Amber has competed at every major event Springfit club has attended, winning many medals, and has shown enormous levels of motivation and ambition in gymnastics.

And sister Abbie Clifton wins trophy for progress
10 year old Abbie Clifton from Horley has been awarded the coveted “Fay Greene Award for Progress in Gymnastics” trophy for her outstanding achievements throughout the last year.
The trophy is awarded annually by Springfit Gymnastics and Trampolining club to the gymnast who, in the opinion of the coaches, has made the most progress in the previous 12 months.
The award has been well deserved for Abbie who has shown great enthusiasm for the sport, and has gained many new moves in the last year. Training only 3 hours a week, Abbie has been able to achieve back and front somersaults on the floor, and is keen to improve her acrobatic abilities along with vaulting techniques.
Abbie said of her achievement: “It’s really great to finally get the trophy. I really enjoy gymnastics, and now I can see my name on the cup alongside all the other great gymnasts at the club.”

Paul and Shirley receive award
Paul and Shirley Kaye - founders of the Saturn V association of Gymnastics and Trampolining Clubs have been presented with the Npower Community award for services to Disability Sports. The presentation took place at the 16th annual FDSO sports awards event at Leeds United Football Club on 20th March. The event is sponsored by energy giant Npower and took place in the huge conference centre adjacent to the football stadium. The award was an engraved crystal decanter which Paul and Shirley are going to give to their mentor Eddy Anderson; the founder of Rebound Therapy, in recognition of his 35 years tireless work in developing the techniques of using a trampoline to provide therapeutic exercise for disabled people.

Pictured is Paul and Shirley receiving the award from the Chairman of the English Federation of Disability Sports and a director of npower.

Displays

Parents "Sit-in" classes

Springfit recently held sit-in sessions for parents of class members at Oakwood Sports Centre, Horley.
The sit-in sessions are arranged twice a year to showcase gymnasts’ progress and perform routines for spectators’ entertainment.  New skills that children are learning in their classes were highlighted with individual moves performed and group routines also showcased.
Those attending were delighted to see the show their children put on, and enjoyed the dynamics provided by the coaches of each class.
Each and every child was recognised for progress made in just 6 months, and coaches rewarded one member of each class with a progress medal, to the child they considered to have shown the most effort and enthusiasm for gymnastics.  The class displays are a fantastic way of helping the gymnasts get used to performing for a crowd, and provides the parents in attendance with a great deal of pride.

And On Monday 2nd March and Wednesday 4th March 2009, Pointers held a Parental ‘sit-in’ at de Stafford Sport Centre. All coaches from Pointers have been very impressed with the standard of the gymnasts and are very pleased with the enthusiasm they have shown.
Progress medal winners for March 2009: Freya Sweetman (Monday 5:30 – 6:30), Alexandra Stoica (Monday 6:30 – 7:45), Drew Bennett (Wednesday 4:00 – 5:00), Ellie Percy (Wednesday 5:00 – 6:00) and Lucie Hillsley (Wednesday 6:00 – 7:15).

Recent Competitions

INTER CLUBS GYMNASTICS

The first Saturn V Association gymnastics competition of 2009 was held on Sunday 22nd March at Oakwood Sports Centre, home of Springfit Gymnastics and Trampoline Club. This was a Tumbling and Acrobatic
competition and was supported by over 90 parents and family members who came to spectate.
The competition consisted of two disciplines; tumbling followed by sports acrobatic.
There was success for many of the younger gymnasts who showed good control at the novice tumbling grades which preceded the older, more experienced gymnasts showing their new somersaulting skills at the
more advanced Grade 7 level. Each gymnast performed to their best and all impressed the spectators and the judges with their strength, flexibility and welll choreographed routines.
Pictured here are the Tumbling and acrobatic medal winners showing some of their acrobatic skills:
Megan Davies, Zoe Burcombe (Pointers), Lily Fairhall (Pointers), Emily Charman (Springfit), Holly French (Pointers), Emma French (Pointers), Abbie Clifton (Springfit), Amber Clifton (Springfit), Zara Coen (Pointers), Katherine Da-Silva-Skinner (Springfit), Chelsie Kilgannon (Springfit), Dominic Montgomery (Pointers), Carla Stoica (Pointers), Daisy Roadnight (Pointers), Alexandra Stoica (Pointers) and Rachna Patel (Springfit).

INTER CLUBS TRAMPOLINING

The Saturn V Association’s latest trampoline competition was again held in the sports hall at Moor House School in Hurst Green on Saturday 28th February. Member clubs from Caterham, Caterham on the Hill, Oxted, Horley, Hurst Green, Selsdon and Coulsdon all entered children for the competition. The competitors, whose ages ranged from 4½ to 17 years all had to perform two routines in front of a panel of judges.
There were 4 grades which accommodated all levels of experience; ranging from relative beginner (SDF grade 8) to fairly advanced (SDF grade A1). The competition concluded with an exciting synchro display where two trampolinists perform a 10 contact routine in unison on adjacent trampolines.Organiser Paul Kaye said, “This was the one of the best competitions we have ever had the pleasure of running. All children performed extremely well and throughly enjoyed the afternoon. Of the 44 competitors, 8 children were competing for the very first time - including 6 year old Emily Reeves who won a gold medal.. This is the highest number of "first timers" we have ever had and reflects extremely well on both them and the skill and enthusiasm of their coaches. All competitors received a certificate of achievement for entering and medals were awarded for high scorers.
Pictured here are all the happy medal winners.

SPRINGFIT COMPETE IN LEATHERHEAD
Members of Springfit Gymnastics and Trampoline club took part in Leatherhead Leisure Centre's annual recreational trampoline competition on 21 st March.
Seven representatives of the Horley based club travelled up to compete against members of Leatherhead trampoline club. Trophies were awarded to the top 3 scorers in 4 different categories; Under 12 and over 12 Novice & Improvers.
There were many excellent performances for spectators to enjoy, and the Springfit children performed exceptionally well, with Katie Pidgeon picking up a first place trophy and Laura Songhurst earning second place in the under 12’s Improvers category.
There were also outstanding performances from the under 12 Novices, including 7 year old Lottie Drawbridge, who attends Saturday morning Funfit classes at Springfit club, as well as an intricate and difficult routine by Yasmin Anderson for the over 12’s Improvers, with multiple twists and somersaults included in her voluntary routine.
