Progress medal winners

Once every four months, all Saturn V gymnasts put on a class display and parents are invited. The purpose of this is to give parents the opportunity to see how their children are progressing and for children to have the experience of performing in front of an audience. After each class display, the gymnast who, in the opinion of the coaches, has made the most progress since the last display is presented with a medal.  Medal winners for December's class displays were:
Mondays 5.30: 9 year old Khrishna Jotangiya from Whyteleafe and 6 year old Evie Toogood from Sanderstead,
Monday 6.30: 8 year old Megan Davies from Oxted and 8 year old Cecily Bateman from Tatsfied,
Wednesday 4.00: Erin McDonald (5) from Lingfield,
Wednesday 5.00: Phoebe Paton (7) from Whyteleafe,
Wednesday 6.00 Freddie Saunders (10) from Whyteleafe (pictured),
Friday 5.00: 9 year old Lauren Hart from Smallfield,
Friday 6.00: 14 year old Abigail Fairhead from Horley,
Friday 7.00: Ella Sharman (14) also from Horley.
Congratulations to all.
The next gymnastic class displays will be on 26th, 28th and 30th March.

New Adult Trampolining class and Gymnastics class

Why should the children have all the fun? We have been running adult trampolining classes in Caterham for 15 years. We have now started an adult trampoline class and an adult gymnastics class in Horley. The classes run on Friday evenings from 8.00 to 9.00 at Oakwood. Come and try it out! Please give Shirley a ring on 01883 623452 to check space availability.

Adam Reynolds and Sefra Crilly both passed an advanced trampoline coaching course in December. Congratulations to them.

Tanya Richardson and Isobel Raby are both taking the trampoline coach course in January. Good luck to them. Tanya also attended the gymnastics club coach course in December and will be taking the exam later in the year.

Members' satisfaction survey

Congratulations to our coach Adam Reynolds who achieved the highest overall score in the December members' satisfaction survey. He achieved an impressive average score of 9.5 out of 10.
Adam coaches trampolining and gymnastics at the William Road, de Stafford and Horley branches.
Many thanks to all of you who took the time to complete the survey. Your comments are really appreciated and help us to improve the service we and all the coaches provide.

Winner of the January prize draw which is included with the members' satisfaction survey was Adam Green who attends Kindergym classes at William Road. Adam wins for his parents, a three course meal for 2 with wine - courtesy of the Good Companions bar and restaurant in Hamsey Green.

Another award!

We are delighted to announce that only three months after being awarded the Surrey County Council's "Active Surrey" Bronze award, Saturn V have been awarded the Silver award. Active Surrey club development officer Simon Walker said that we had achieved silver in record time and are on course to be the first ever club to go right through from bronze to gold.

Grant for Special Needs Equipment

Surrey County Council's Community Action department has awarded the rebound hall a grant of £2127 for equipment for our special needs classes. The money will be spent on new reinforced foam steps, a foam wedge, a spare trampoline bed, a parachute, a new harness and straps for the safety rig and a new "throw-in" mattress.

Model jumps off roof

Quite literally, in November Saturn V were commissioned to launch a supermodel off the roof of a London skyscraper. Tiger Aspect who are the television company who produce Channel 5's Rachel Hunter - Make me a Supermodel TV programme, wanted to do a film shoot of their models trampolining on the roof of the London School of Economics. A trampoline was taken up to the roof (taking it up in parts and then assembling up there) and the brief was to teach the prospective supermodels sufficient trampolining skills so that the cameramen could get film and stills of them flying with the background of the London skyscraper scene. The programme was broadcast on Channel 5  the following day (5th November.)
Pictured here one of the show's models - Waz, on the film shoot.

Recent Competitions

Last October, trampolinists from all Saturn V venues met at the Keys for the club's triennial inter-club trampolining competition. As always, the hall was packed with parents and family keen to watch their children perform And they were not disappointed. All the children performed two routines to the very best of their ability in front of a panel of judges. There were 6 categories in the competition ranging from relative beginner (SDF grade 8) to fairly advanced (SDF grade A3.) There was also a synchro category; where two children perform a routine on different trampolines in synchro.  All competitors received a certificate of achievement for entering and medals were awarded for third, second and first places in each category. Pictured here are the medal winners, from top left to bottom right: Joshua Thomas, Katherine Hodge, Kate Robinson, Megan Sciberras, Alex Alpe, Kayleigh Donovan, Georgina Donovan, Eloise Edwards-Hedges, Leyla Haselden, Madison Whitehead, Samantha Christian and Abigail Barker.

In November, we held a small but very enjoyable tumbling and vault competition at the Keys. All the children performed three tumble runs and two vaults. This was so popular that we will be repeating this format later this year. Pictured are all the children who took part.
